Acknowledgement of Country
The Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists acknowledges and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the Traditional Owners of the lands and waters on which we live and work. We pay our respect to their elders past and present.
The Wentworth Group is dedicated to water and land policy reform to protect Australia’s environment. We recognise the important role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as stewards of country for over 60,000 years, and their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We also recognise the need to manage healthy landscapes to support traditional and ongoing social, economic, cultural and spiritual values.
The Wentworth Group respects traditional knowledge for the management of natural resources and the achievement of sustainable development. We are committed to mutual learning between scientific and traditional knowledge holders to enhance outcomes for our nation as a whole.
The Wentworth Group undertakes to:
- Connect with and learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on the issues on which we work;
- Encourage involvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in land and water policy reform;
- Support outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the management of land and water.
We look forward to continuing to work alongside Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders to improve the health of our nation’s lands and waters for the benefits of all peoples.
