Wetlands are among the most degraded of all Australian ecosystems. They are significantly affected by land use change, salinisation, changed water regimes and changed water quality (DEWHA 2009). In response to these concerns, several states have developed wetland assessment methodologies but few are implemented on a state-wide basis. There is currently no national wetland assessment method.
