The Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists welcomes the opportunity to review and provide feedback on the Productivity Commission 2026, National Water Reform 2026: Preliminary assessment, Interim update.
We contend that due to the governmental focus on water management in the Basin, that lessons from this river system may have broader national application. In many cases the PC interim update makes assertions based on government reports that progress in water reform is satisfactory. As we detail below, this optimistic view does not match the on-ground evidence. We call on the PC to recommend more substantial implementation measures.
